lola

i met this dog on friday night really clenching my love for boston terriers. lola is terrified of most everything. but she has a blankie. and if you ask her where her blankie is she will run straight over to her tattered little pink (!) blanket, grab it with her teeth and then jump on your lap with it and chew on it. dear heavens. now i want a boston terrier! and she kind of looks like a bat-cow!!!

finally finally finally

my new camera finally arrived. And although it is not anything fancy, ANYTHING is an upgrade from my iphone camera. Having to wait for the camera app to open, waiting for the shutter to open...having no control whatsoever...okay I admit it, i kind of enjoyed the iphone camera and it certainly hasn't been put on the shelf. BUT I now have a digital camera that has a flash. gasp.
So here is one of my first images taken with the lumix. I bought a stamp today at a yardsale that says "Let your light so shine before men" I think it might be a biblical reference, not sure though. It is a beautiful statement and since i am still completely immature, I pressed the image onto my arm... oh and yes that is a firetruck on my bracelet. I got it at the yardsale too.

signed sealed delivered

So i haven't really taken many pictures lately. Not sure if it because i am too busy to look around, or too preoccupied in the visions in my head. But, a friend sent me a link to her flickr account and she seems to have the same love for text and sunspots as i do. So i am going to share her viewpoint today.

ps i am feeling much better. the visions in my head are not from a fever (I can read your mind Grant! You too Susan!)

pps petty is sleeping again.

ppppppsssssssssssss brucelee still doesn't care.

The photographer's name is Allyson. She lives in New York. I don't feel comfortable giving out her flickr, she might think it's weird.

vote for petty

I have the flu. and presidential debates make me uncomfortable. why are john mccain's eyes always dilated? it freaks me out.
also petty is not a very good nurse.

remember when you wear these little worlds

I took this photo a few weeks ago on 1st in downtown seattle. The store adjacent had no connection to this pretty little statement on the sidewalk. I've been meaning to do a little research to see if it has a literary reference. So when I looked it up, all i found was a blog with the poem below. I like the last line.

The Necklace

These little irises could be your eyes'
if they were twice as large and twice as dark,
but if I got inside them--can I find
the vein that is the tunnel to your heart?
I may be in there: I see signs of movement
under the silky shadow/luminescence;
is it feeling's fierce integument
or a more troubled, more elusive essence?
Your other eyes have locked me out sometimes
(they have good reason to) but not ignored
the guilty pleading boring out from mine
there are no words for, as there are no words
for what these lacquer seeds say. Irritation
brought them on, but patience made them pearls,
the same slow labor that piles years of pages up--
call it obsession, plodding, imitation,
pigheadedness, simplicity, devotion:
Out of the dented life burled nacre curls
until the final jewel locks rays and rages up.
Remember when you wear these little worlds.

by Jonathan Galassi which first appeared in the 1999 or 2000 Valentine issue of The New Yorker and is also featured in his latest collection North Street

3 from my weekend

1. The largest leaf I have ever seen. It was at least 3 feet from stem to tip top. I put my boot in the shot for comparison. We all know i have not so small feet:)

2. Mack Shack. This exists in Fremont. not much else to say about it. Except that we should probably try to bring back the word "mack". Return of the mack, if you will.

3. This is 2 crows eating a taco bell taco. I had absolutely nothing to do with this. Did not set out that taco, watch the crows unwrap it (crows will take over the world) and then eat the whole thing. It was Rob's idea. To give the taco to the homeless man i mean. i thought if we set it out he would find it. Unfortunately the crows run this town. I set out a hot sauce too, I'm surprised the crows didn't open that right up and pour it on their meal!

chasing the sun

so much this week. winning a work popularity contest. spending a week in a pretend city. realizing that attention for doing a job well is really embarrassing. realizing that not everyone feels that way. adding us airways to my airline "never fly" list. realizing that lavender grows in philadelphia too. being pulled back to earth to find out my sis is having surgery. and i have barely talked to any friends all week. and my dog is sick. i need to find a balance between just getting through it and getting through it while keeping my life together.

Susie!!! I love you!!!! Feel better. If i were home I would make you chicken and dumpling soup. or at least i would try. and then i would tell you all about how much i've been exercising. Hey at least now you know where that extra inch around your waist came from! ;)
