why my soul expands and contracts
Lists.
I love lists. It is a strange thing, but writing out information in a list form makes the world seem like a more organized place. Makes me feel together. That is the functionality of lists. I also love making lists of things for entertainment purposes. Up until this point this blog has been entirely one sided. I have asked for nothing at all until right now. But I am making a list that I want added to. Please help me by commenting or emailing me at shellyhorst@mac.com. I won't say whose is whose. unless you want me to.
"Things or activities that take a bit of your soul away"
#1 Eating at PF Changs
#2 Really bad traffic
#3 Spending money at Wal Mart
#4 Going to the DMV/becoming a number
#5 Saying the words "it is what it is" to justify something and believing it
also on the flip side, to keep it positive:
"Things or activities that fill your soul"
#1 Singing really loud and not caring who hears
#2 Breathing in crisp fall air
#3 Petty hugs
#4 watching sleeping babies/baby animals, even more so when you can tell they are dreaming!
#5 Doing something I initially wanted to say no to, only to find the dreaded activity was fun!
#6 singing along to the Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff "Summertime" while working on a men's floorset.
please please send me some ideas for these lists. Something about this concept really does it for me.

Thanks for the advice
Yesterday Jill and I had every intention of spending a nice afternoon shopping the Ballard farmers market. We even went there. But instead of perusing the outdoor market, we went shopping instead. My Ballard favorites are blackbird and 2020, both boutiques have the amazing detailing in their environment that I love. That element of discovery that makes them different and unique. thankfully I did not fall in love with any $100 items and came home only down $30 from tacos and margaritas from Matador! Unheard of.
ps i know i need a new camera. it is sad and pathetic that i use my iphone for all of these images. Maybe for my birthday I will get a Leica...

film, fantasy, reality

Scarecrow Video...Rich and Des brought me here after making me promise to never eat mushrooms and then go to this video store...I needed to see why. It is a maze of every movie imaginable in the most confusing setup ever. When you look over the store from the upper level, it actually looks like Labyrinth. David Bowie with Crystal ball and all.
Rainbow over the Emerald City... aftermath of torrential downpour.

the long way round
Today was a hot one in Seattle. Perfect weather for a long introspective walk though the city. A chance to ask myself questions like, "am i supposed to be here, in this city, in this life?" and "what is the right path for me?" Although i reached no conclusions, i was able to be alone and ponder these questions. It never gets easier, does it? Although it does manage to keep coming, doesn't it?

growing on the edge of I-5 on the fence in the heart of the city...mulberries. beautiful.

p.s. I found two lucky pennies today though. That has to count for something.
