present loss prevention

So My brother sent me this email today about my 6 year old niece Delaney and her christmas presents. You have to love this girl. Edd is a beagle and twinkle is the cat in the picture.

Here's the email:

So Shell made a point to Delaney last night that it's possible that Edd or Twinkle might tear into a present at some point and that if this happens, she should close her eyes and come tell us. "You need to close your eyes, though, because we'll have to take back any presents you see before Christmas!"

Of course, she has obsessed over protecting her presents ever since.

Here is the barricade and note she set up to avoid the risk of "present loss"...You've gotta love it!

The note says " Do not pass cuz do not open presents". and that's twinkle chillin' on the forbidden side of the barricade. Ignoring the sign.

snow in seattle is a lovely rarity. I always love snow while it is a verb, but when it becomes a noun that lasts longer than a day I'm pretty much over it. Especially in a city that has absolutely no clue what to do with ice and snow. I live on a very steep hill. One that has not been salted. It's a miracle I haven't slid all the way down to lake union yet.

no spirit

so i get that we are in a recession. people are losing their jobs. buckling down. saving money. but why does that mean that everyone has to be so bah humbug about the holidays this year? I was driving around the suburbs (!) yesterday evening and only saw 2 houses with christmas lights up. The suburbs! C'mon people! It all feels like some sad holiday movie where a bad man stole christmas, but not in a quirky way like the nightmare before christmas, but in a sad way where we all just sit around and feel sorry for ourselves. We need to ring a bell to give an angel his wings, sing carols at the top of our lungs to convince santa we DO believe and we need little Susie to give the grinch a heart! Okay maybe that's dramatic. But I wish there were more positive news in America to give us all inspiration. Dear America, Stop firing people in December!

As for me, I will be putting up a tree this weekend. and wrapping presents! and eating popcorn and drinking hot cocoa! and baking christmas cookies! join me if you can!!!

PS thank you dear job of mine for my lovely bonus today! (explanation for heightened cheer level)
